Greetings, my name is Mrs. Liza and it is a pleasure to share about myself. I can say that my mothers’ daycare has been a blessing not only for the families that have come in and out of our lives, but it has been a blessing for me to witness. She started her 1st home daycare in San Bernadino as a way to care for me during my asthmatic issues. From there I was blessed by a wide array of children and families coming into our home. Through watching my mother care for infants, toddlers, preschool age, and elementary age, I gained a lot of knowledge and wisdom in raising children. I realized at a young age that children require a lot out of parents and that to be a parent, you must give yourself to your child, because they rely on you to help them grow and navigate life.
Becoming a childcare provider assistant was not my initial desire. I graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in Biological Science. It was my hope with this degree to be a veterinarian. Yet, it was in 2012 that my mother asked me to aide her in starting a preschool; I wasn’t able to get a job in my field, so I agreed to help her gather information and start the process. It was around that time that we had 3, 4-year-old children and a 3 year-old child enrolled into her daycare. I decided to teach them to ready them for kindergarten. I developed a curriculum that focused on recognition of letters and numbers; I followed up with that curriculum with an introduction to phonics and writing of their letters and numbers. By the time the 4 started school in September of 2013, they could write their name, recognize and write letters A to Z and 1-100, cut and paste, and more. Over the years, I modified my curriculum to incorporate children who may have slight learning disabilities that hinder them from comprehending certain aspects of my curriculum. Since then, I have sent my students to elementary prepared for whatever their new teachers has to teach them and it has been a joy to see how confident they are in their learning. As my mother mention, we have a curriculum for ages 2-4. All were designed by me and are building blocks to advance the children as they grow.
It is our intentions to continue this type of curriculum to prepare our students for common core curriculum in the schools while inputting a Reggio Emilio/Anti-bias based curriculum as well.
