Children are gifted with skills and abilities to help them be successful contributing members of society. We do not discredit the mind of a child; the mind of a child is an open canvas in which we the teachers have the gifts and abilities to help them construct works of wonder for them to enjoy. Yet, we do not take sole credit in the shaping of young children, for the world and all influences within have roles in the development of children from birth to adulthood. One pioneer in early childhood development, Urie Bronfenbrenner developed a circle called Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological System Theory. In his circle (image seen below) he shows the child in the middle and various influences surrounding the child’s circle. A Childs 1st teachers are their parents from prenatal to birth you the parent are your childs 1st introduction to the world and its various sensory and social cues. School, which we will place ourselves into, is other influence that not only brings education to your child in the form of numbers, letters, vocabulary, arithmetic, and more, but social emotion learning to help your child understand that no one person is an island and we all must work together to maintain the function and order of our society. It is here that we believe that exposure is the key to giving children the best outlet possible to understand the world they live in and what their purpose is in it. Love is the first emotion we believe in teaching our children; from love we believe our children can absorb and understand the meaning of learning, friendship, and the joy of living.
